BLUCONNECT / USER GUIDE

Remote

Last updated: 7 October 2026

For smart TVs and media players on Wi-Fi, BluConnect offers a full-screen remote. You can also add non-smart devices such as TVs, set-top boxes, air conditioners and fans over infrared (IR) or Bluetooth. The TV remote and Bluetooth remotes are available on every plan; adding infrared remotes with Add remote is part of BluConnect Plus.

Opening the remote

  1. Open the page of the TV or the device with a remote.
  2. Tap the Remote card (Open remote).
  3. The device name and connection path appear at the top: Wi-Fi · local, Infrared, Infrared · Hub or Bluetooth. The red button at the top right is Power.

The remote only shows the buttons the device actually supports. If the device is offline you'll see "Offline · check the connection" and the buttons won't respond.

The Keys tab

  • Top row: Source, Menu, Info, Guide.
  • Direction ring: Up, Down, Left, Right and OK in the middle. Direction buttons repeat when held.
  • Bottom row: Back, Home, Exit, Settings.
  • Volume and Channel: the + / − buttons on either side; hold to change volume quickly. Mute and Play / Pause sit in the middle.
  • The bar at the very bottom: Rewind / Fast forward, Previous / Next, Pause, Stop, Apps and Keyboard (if the device supports them).

Touchpad, Numbers and Apps

  • Touchpad: swipe to move through menus and tap to select. A long swipe moves several steps.
  • Numbers: keys 0–9, Info and Guide; red, green, yellow and blue color keys on devices that support them.
  • Apps: the list of apps on the TV; tap one to open it on the TV. The app currently open is outlined.

The Numbers and Apps tabs only appear if the device supports them.

Typing text on the TV

  1. Open a search or text field on the TV.
  2. Tap the Keyboard button at the bottom of the remote.
  3. Type your text and tap Send; it's entered into the field on the TV.

Adding an infrared remote (Plus)

  1. On the Nearby tab of Add device, tap Add remote.
  2. Choose what you want to add: TV, Satellite / IPTV box, Air conditioner, Soundbar, Projector or Fan.
  3. Pick your brand; the list shows how many code sets are available. Use the search box if you can't see it.
  4. On the How should it send? screen, choose the transmitter (see below).
  5. On Let's test the device, tap Send power button. If the device responds, tap It worked; if not, tap Didn't work, next to try the next code.
  6. Finally, give it a name (for example Living room TV) and tap Add remote.

An air conditioner remote shows up on the device page with mode, target temperature and fan speed controls. If none of the codes work, tap Start over, or teach it from the original remote with a Broadlink.

Transmitter options

  • This phone's IR blaster: shown on some Android phones that have an IR emitter. Point the phone at the device; no extra hardware is needed.
  • Broadlink blaster: a Broadlink RM4 mini / RM4 pro on the same Wi-Fi sends the command. It also works with iPhone, from anywhere in the home and in routines. If it isn't listed, tap Find Broadlink.
  • Bluetooth remote: shown on Android phones that support it; the phone pairs with the TV as a Bluetooth keyboard/remote and no codes are needed. Not available for air conditioners and fans.

iPhones and most phones don't have an IR blaster; use a Broadlink instead. If no Broadlink is found, check that it's on and on the same Wi-Fi, and that "Device lock" is off in the Broadlink app.

Teaching from the original remote (Broadlink)

  1. Choose Broadlink as the transmitter. If your brand is labeled "by learning", the learning screen opens right away; otherwise tap "I'd rather teach it from the remote" while testing codes.
  2. On Teach the buttons, point the original remote at the Broadlink.
  3. Tap Learn next to a button, then press the same button on the original remote. A check mark appears next to each learned button; if it's wrong, tap Again.
  4. Once you've taught at least the Power button, tap Continue, give it a name and tap Add remote.

Bluetooth remote (Android)

  1. In the Add remote flow, choose a type such as TV and a brand, then tap Bluetooth remote.
  2. On Pair with your TV, open Settings › Bluetooth › Add accessory on the TV.
  3. On your phone, tap Make phone discoverable (2 min) and select your phone on the TV. If it was paired before, just pick it from the list.
  4. Give it a name and tap Add remote. With this remote you can also type text on the TV using Keyboard.

FAQ

Can I use an infrared remote with my iPhone?
iPhones don't have an IR blaster. With a Broadlink RM4 mini / RM4 pro on the same Wi-Fi, you can use infrared remotes from an iPhone too.

Can I use infrared remotes in routines?
Remotes added through a Broadlink work in routines and from anywhere in the home. A phone's own IR blaster only works when the phone is pointed at the device.

Some buttons are missing from the remote. Why?
BluConnect only shows the buttons the device supports or that you've taught it. For a remote added with a Broadlink, you can add a missing button by teaching it.

Do I need Plus for the TV remote?
The remote for smart TVs on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth remotes are available on every plan. Adding an infrared remote with Add remote requires BluConnect Plus.
