BLUCONNECT / USER GUIDE
Notifications
Last updated: 7 October 2026
BluConnect notifications come from your routines to your phones: when a device finishes its job, when an automation runs, or with a message you write yourself. Notifications are a Plus feature.
Notify when finished
On the page of appliances that run programs, such as washers, dishwashers and dryers, and of robot vacuums, you'll find a Notify when finished switch below the controls.
- Tap the device on the Devices tab.
- Turn on the Notify when finished switch below the controls.
- If this is the first time, allow notifications on your phone.
- While it's on, the switch shows "You'll be notified when the program finishes", or on vacuums "You'll be notified when cleaning finishes".
- When the program ends you get "… finished its program"; when cleaning ends you get "… finished cleaning".
- This switch creates an automation called "Notify when … finishes" in the background; it appears in the Routines › Automations list. Turning the switch off deletes that automation.
- The home's owner and full members see the switch; guests don't.
Because Notify when finished is an automation, where it runs follows the rules on the Automations page. If you open the automation and the note at the top says "Runs only while the app is open", you may not get the notification while your phone is off.
Notifications in automations
- Send a notification action: choose Add action › Send a notification, type the message (for example "Your coffee is ready") and tap Add. The notification's title is the routine's name.
- Notify when it runs: while this switch below the actions in the automation editor is on, you get a "Ran automatically" notification every time the automation runs. It's on for new automations.
- You can also add a Send a notification step to scenes; when you run the scene the message shows inside the app on your phone and goes to the other phones in the home as a notification.
Ready-made notification suggestions
In the Suggested section at the bottom of the Routines tab, if you have suitable devices, you can set up these notification automations with one tap:
- Tell me when the laundry is done: when the washer, dishwasher or dryer finishes.
- Notify on camera motion: when a camera detects motion.
- Notify when the alarm goes off: when your alarm panel is triggered.
Notification permission
BluConnect asks for notification permission when it first needs it: when you save your first routine that contains a notification, or the first time you turn on Notify when finished. If you don't allow it, the routine is still saved but that phone won't get notifications.
- To turn permission on later, open your phone's Settings app.
- Find BluConnect among your apps and open Notifications.
- Allow notifications, then open BluConnect again.
While the app is open on screen, incoming notifications appear as a short message inside the app instead of a system notification.
Who in the home gets notifications?
- Notifications go to the home's owner and full members; they don't go to guests or to members who only have access to certain rooms or devices.
- To get notifications, a person must be signed in to BluConnect on their phone and have allowed notifications.
- Once you sign out of your account, that phone no longer gets notifications.
- Notifications need the home to have Plus: a home's plan is the highest plan among its owners, so if an owner has Plus, members get notifications too.
- A message you write yourself goes to everyone exactly as written; the "Notify when it runs" and "Notify when finished" texts are also sent in the language they were created in.
FAQ
I don't see the Notify when finished switch.
The switch only appears on appliances that run programs (such as washers, dishwashers and dryers) and on robot vacuums. It also doesn't appear if you were added as a guest or only have access to certain devices.
Do notifications arrive while my phone is locked or the app is closed?
Yes, if the automation runs on a Home Hub or the BluConnect server, the notification arrives even while the app is closed. If the automation shows the "Runs only while the app is open" warning, this isn't guaranteed.
Am I the only one who gets the notifications?
No. Routines belong to the home; a notification goes to the owner and all full members who have allowed notifications. Guests don't get notifications.
How do I stop "Notify when it runs" notifications?
Tap the automation, turn off the Notify when it runs switch in the editor and tap Save.
