BLUCONNECT / USER GUIDE
Location: arriving and leaving home
Last updated: 7 October 2026
BluConnect can run automations when you get home or leave. To do this you set the home location once, then each member turns on sharing on their own phone. Location triggers are a Plus feature and need a BluConnect account.
Open the Location & presence screen
- Open the Account tab and tap Home settings.
- In the LOCATION section, tap Location and presence.
If nobody is sharing yet when you open the location options in the automation editor, the Location settings link shown below them also takes you to this screen.
Set your home location
Your phone counts as "home" inside this circle and "away" outside it. The default radius is 150 m. To change the location, tap Use current location as home while you're home. The home location can be set by the home's owner and full members; guests can't set it.
- Open the Location & presence screen while you're at home.
- In the Home location section, tap I'm home: set this location and allow location access if asked.
- When the row shows Set and a radius, choose the size of the circle from the 100 m, 150 m, 300 m or 500 m options below it.
Turn on sharing on this phone
- In the This phone section, turn on Share my arrivals and departures.
- Read the Location use explanation and tap Continue.
- Allow location access. For arrivals and departures to work while the app is closed, access must be set to "Always"; if your phone sends you to Settings, choose Location › Always, then turn the switch on again.
- The status appears under the switch: On · monitoring the area, Last: home or Last: away. If an update failed, the last error is shown.
- Each member turns sharing on on their own phone; nobody can turn it on for you.
- A phone can share for only one home at a time. If it's on for another home you'll see "On for … (one home per phone)".
- You can't turn on sharing before the home location is set; the app asks you to set the home location first.
Who's home?
The Members section lists everyone in the home: for those who share, it shows Home or Away and when it was last updated (for example 5 min ago); for those who don't, it shows Not sharing. A member who doesn't share counts as away in automations.
Build an arrive / leave automation
- On the Routines tab, start a new automation with + (Create routine).
- Choose Add trigger › Arriving or leaving home.
- Pick one option from the Arriving / leaving list, add your actions and tap Save.
- First person arrives home: runs when the first sharing member arrives at an empty home.
- Last person leaves home: runs when the last sharing member leaves and the home is empty.
- I arrive home / I leave home and, for each member, "… arrives home" / "… leaves home": runs only when that person arrives or leaves.
- Ready-made suggestions: Lights on when I get home, Last one out turns everything off, Arm the alarm when you leave.
Use location as a condition
In any automation, use Add condition › Who's home so it runs only when someone is home or nobody is. Options: Someone is home, Nobody is home, I'm home, I'm away and, for each member, "… is home" / "… is away". Example: at 18:00, if Nobody is home, turn the lights on.
Location privacy
- Your location isn't tracked or stored: the phone only reports entering or leaving your home area.
- No location history is kept; other members only see whether you are home or away and when that was last updated.
- The only location saved to your account is the center and radius of the home location you set.
- You can stop sharing anytime with the Share my arrivals and departures switch; others then see you as Not sharing and location triggers about you no longer run. Signing out also stops sharing.
FAQ
My arrival automation didn't run. What should I check?
On the Location & presence screen, check that the home location shows Set, that sharing is on in the This phone section, and that your phone's location access is set to "Always". If the home circle is too small, try a 300 m or 500 m radius.
Why don't I see the arriving / leaving option?
The location feature works with a BluConnect account and the latest version of the app; without an account (demo mode) the Location & presence screen says "Not available in this version". It also needs Plus.
Do location automations work without a Home Hub?
Yes. When your phone enters or leaves the home circle it reports this to BluConnect; without a Hub the server runs the automation right away, with a Hub the Hub runs it. The devices in the automation must also be controllable from the server or the Hub.
Can I see my family's location on a map?
No. BluConnect only shows whether they are home or away; it doesn't show or store anyone's position or movement history.
